Our visitors can discover the development of the five economic "C's" of Arizona. We believe there should be a 6th "C"; the cowboy. the era from the 1930's to the 1950's is the golden era of the Silver Screen. Screen Cowboys such as Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Hopalong Cassidy and others were the childhood friends of many of us. Rex Allen (Raised in Wilcox AZ) and Andy Devine (Raised in Kingman AZ) are Arizona natives. John Wayne Spent a lot of time here with the 26 Bar Ranch in Heber and his other interests in Tubac and Sanford. A multitude of “Silver Screen” western location scenes were filmed in Oatman, Sedona, Tucson, Tombstone, with notables like Randolph Scott, John Wayne Debbie Reynolds and many others. Movies TV serials and location scenes are being filmed even today. |

One of the
oldest professional sporting events held in Arizona is professional
baseball starting about 1900.
Cactus League
baseball became a major economic engine after 1946 and continues to
grow with each April meeting of 14 major league baseball clubs
including the Chicago Cubs, and LA Dodgers. All the indications with new stadiums in Avondale and
Surprise point to a bright future for spring training in Arizona.
1968 brought Phoenix basketball with the
Suns
as an expansion team. 1997
brought an original WBA franchise to Phoenix as the
Phoenix Mercury
(named such because Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun). Football in Arizona excites Arizona Cardinals and Arena football Arizona Rattler fans. For Cardinal fans the drought may be over since they are the 2008 NFC Champions. The Cardinals play in Glendale and perform off season activities and training around Tempe and Chandler. The future of Hockey is uncertain, although, the past has been exciting with the Phoenix Coyotes. |
